Signs of readiness usually appear around 6 months: steady head control, interest in your food, and the tongue no longer pushing food out. Before 6 months, breastmilk or formula is enough.

What to offer

  • Carbs: fine porridge/rice cereal, potato, banana.
  • Protein: egg, fish, chicken, tofu, tempeh, chicken liver.
  • Fruit and veg: avocado, papaya, carrot, spinach.
  • A little fat for flavor and calories.

What to avoid

  • Added sugar, salt, and excess soy sauce in the first year.
  • Honey before age 1 (botulism risk).
  • Plain cow’s milk as a drink before age 1.

Texture steps up gradually — from smooth, to minced, to family food around age 1.

Introduce one new food every 2–3 days to spot allergies. Breastmilk or formula remains the main nutrition source until around age 1.
