Vaccines at 3 months: DPT-HB-Hib 2 & Oral Polio 3 (bOPV 3)
The 3-month visit repeats last month's combination: DPT-HB-Hib 2 and Oral Polio 3. This second dose is what lifts protection from partial to strong.

-
Oral Polio 3 (bOPV 3)
- Protects against
- Poliomyelitis (polio). The third dose completes the oral polio primary series.
- How it is given
- Drops given directly into the mouth (oral).
- Side effects
- Almost no side effects.
- Availability
- Free at posyandu and puskesmas.
Why it matters at this age
A first dose only introduces the germ to the immune system; second and third doses push the body to multiply antibodies to a protective level. That is why you should not stop at one dose even when your baby looks healthy. Full protection arrives only after the complete series.
What to bring to posyandu
The KIA book is a must so the 2nd dose is recorded correctly. Dress for easy thigh access, and have infant paracetamol ready at home in case of fever. Note the next visit date (4 months) before you leave.
Frequently asked questions
How is DPT-HB-Hib 2 different from the first dose?
The vaccine is exactly the same. Only the sequence differs. Doses 2 and 3 are repeats that raise antibody levels. Fever is actually slightly more common after this dose because the immune system already 'recognizes' the vaccine.
What is the minimum gap after the 2-month shots?
At least 28 days (4 weeks) from the previous DPT-HB-Hib dose. Shifting a few days late is fine. What matters is the interval, not the exact date in the KIA book.
Can vaccination be postponed while my baby is teething?
No need. Teething is not a contraindication. Even a mild teething fever is generally safe to vaccinate through. Check with the nurse if your baby's fever is above 38.5°C or she seems unwell.
